ShubhSaathi ("we", "our", "us") provides a daily spiritual companion app ("the App") for modern India: panchang timings, muhurat, horoscope, Gita guidance, and blessings. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
We collect only the information needed to provide the App's features. We do not run advertising, and we do not use third-party analytics or ad SDKs in the App.
Account information
- Anonymous identifier: When you first open the App, a Firebase account identifier (UID) is created automatically so your preferences and saved items can work across sessions. This is anonymous until you sign in.
- Phone number: If you sign in with your phone number via one-time password (OTP), your phone number is provided to our authentication provider (Firebase) strictly to verify the login.
- Google account details: If you sign in with Google, we receive the basic profile information Google shares with the App (such as your name and email address). Signing in with Google is optional.
Location (optional, when-in-use only)
- If you tap "Use my current location" on the location setup screen, the App reads your device's approximate or precise location once, converts it to the nearest city for panchang calculations, and uses that city thereafter.
- Your raw GPS coordinates are not stored by us or sent to a backend as coordinates. Only the nearby city selection is retained so the App can show the correct timings for your area.
- Location is never collected in the background.
Voice input (optional)
- When you tap the microphone on the "Ask Saathi" feature, your spoken request is transcribed to text using your device's or browser's built-in speech recognition, so the App can direct you to the right feature.
- We do not record, retain, or ship your audio off-device. Voice recognition is enabled only while you hold or tap the microphone.
Preferences and saved content
- Your language, city, rashi (zodiac sign), notification settings, and recently-viewed or shared blessings are stored locally on your device (and, for some preferences, on our servers when you are signed in) so the App can personalise your experience.
Notifications
- If you opt in, the App registers a device token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) to send you daily panchang and blessing notifications. You can turn notifications off at any time in the App or your device settings.
Technical and usage data
- Our backend services receive standard technical information needed to serve requests (such as device type, OS version, and network requests) for security, stability, and debugging. This data is not used to build a profile of you.
2. How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide and personalise the App's core features (panchang, horoscope, muhurat, Gita, blessings);
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure;
- Deliver notifications you have opted into;
- Maintain, secure, and improve the App and its backend services;
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
3. How we share your information
We share information only with service providers that help us operate the App, and only to the extent needed to provide the service:
- Google (Firebase & Google Cloud Platform): authentication, push notifications, and our hosting and backend services run on Google Cloud infrastructure (servers located in the Asia South 1 region, with standard Google safeguards).
- Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, and OTP providers: when you choose to sign in with a third-party provider, the relevant provider handles the credential, subject to its own privacy policy.
- Device/browser speech recognition: transcription happens through your platform's own speech recognition service; we do not receive or store the audio.
- We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public.
4. Permissions you grant
- Location: only while in use, and only if you explicitly tap the location feature.
- Microphone: only while you are actively using the "Ask Saathi" mic.
- Notifications: only after you opt in.
You can revoke or deny any of these permissions at any time in your device settings; most features will continue to work, though location-based accuracy and voice input may be unavailable.
5. Data storage, security, and retention
- Data is stored on protected Google Cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest.
- Account data (including the anonymous identifier) is retained while your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from inside the App (Profile → Delete Account), which removes the account and sign-in session immediately. You may also request deletion by contacting us using the details below.
- Local data on your device (preferences, saved blessings) can be cleared at any time by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it.
- Backend logs are retained only as long as needed for security and debugging, and are not used for profiling.
6. Children's privacy
The App is intended for general audiences and is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
7. International transfers
The App's infrastructure is provided by Google Cloud. Your information may be processed in countries where our service providers operate. We rely on Google's commitments (including standard contractual clauses and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework where applicable) to protect data transferred.
8. Your choices and rights
- You may choose not to sign in and continue using core features with an anonymous identifier.
- You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time:
- In-app: open Profile → Delete Account to permanently delete your account and its data from the App.
- By email: contact us at contact@shubhsaathi.com with the subject "Delete my account".
- You may stop notifications, revoke permissions, and uninstall the App at any time.
- Where applicable law grants you additional rights (such as the right to data portability), we will honour them.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" above and, where changes are significant, notify you in the App. Continued use of the App after changes takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
